Say Anything
04:16
|
|||
Sitting in the corner, shadows on his eyes
A straight-faced man, a telling grin
He steals the moment with a, casual lie
He smells the blood and digs right in
Say anything for gold
Anything for time
Anything to be seen
Say anything to hold
That spotlight for awhile
Say anything to be seen
On the street, she raises her hand and lends an ear
They let them drink all the while knowing
She's here to help, make some noise, relieve the fear
But the poison water just keeps flowing
Say anything for gold
Anything for time
Anything to be seen
Say anything to hold
That spotlight for awhile
Say anything to be seen
You want change, you got it
Not a lot, but it came just the same
You you you better think about it
Got to make him bleed
Put him on the board
Build a wall around
Burn that village to the ground
Giving praise, his thin-skinned rival won't deny
The big man's words turn into sin
Afraid his chance has slipped away and passed him by
Just say anything to win
Say anything for gold
Anything for time
Anything to be seen
Say anything to hold
That spotlight for awhile
Say anything to be seen
And his words are all obscene
Anything to be seen

To End My Day
04:09
|
|||
This new-age brown liquor, deals the same ol’ pain
They sold me on different, but it all tastes the same
Its fancy-fine label, just can’t hide what’s inside
So I’ll bathe in this new brown liquor to end my day.
That old-timey music, just gets my head right
When I’ve stumbled through the room, feeling lost in the night
And the sound of the song helps me find my way back in the dark
Through the maze to the muse, humbled to end my day
You can wish to be wiser
But those shoes only take you so far
Back to the fire, you know nothing higher
Than tearing down people for just who they are.
The TV is on all night long, deception starts and fits
Talking heads scripted by spiders, call fallen faithless to commit
The bricks of our lives build their tower of lies and expose us with the blame
Unplug to defuse, anxious to end my day
They cursed and they cried, twice denied what they did not understand.
Was it surprising that this moralizing, just wasn’t in the plan?
A landslide filled the path and forced me to find a better way
To a quiet walk home, weary to end my day
But their bags are all empty
They just don’t realize that its gone
Seeing it through, in spite of what’s true
Is the last way to feel any power at all
I woke up this morning, lost inside what’s undone
As the threads come untied, and the colors all have run
A needle in hand to help stitch some honor back into this fray
A warm blanket for my soul, to end my day
A warm blanket for my soul, to end my day

Out Of Track
04:11
|
|||
I'm looking in from the outside looking out
for you it doesn't seem to be workin'
for me.
You're seeing no one you’ve not met before
With you there's no room left to breathe with me
anymore.
How long do I watch you walking that edge
Can I stand by while you're inchin' that ledge
We’ve been runnin' and we've run out of track
And I feel like I'm fadin', fade into black
Before we go over I'm grippin' your shoulder
I'm bringing you back, yeah
I carry you back
I've got your back
Give me a window into the box from within
watchin' from the shadows just a slippin' by me
now I see.
It took too long to know your suffering
walking the line, where it lies among the grey
yesterdays.
How long do I watch you walking that edge
Can I stand by while you're inchin' that ledge
We’ve been runnin' and we've run out of track
And I feel like I'm fadin', fade into black
Before we go over I'm grippin' your shoulder
I'm bringing you back, yeah
I carry you back
I've got your back
I'm looking in from the outside looking out
for you it doesn't seem to be workin'
for me.

Lonely Few
04:27
|
|||
The sign read “Where are you going, Heaven or Hell?”,
Outside a town named In-Between.
I swung my past onto my back,
And shuffled off toward unseen.
Took a short drive down a deserted path,
Where trees barricade any hope of rescue.
The dark did descend, settled into the night,
And my last weary thought was you.
Awoken by a voice, it was not like the last,
Just a whisper in my ear.
Gentle tones, forgotten shadows of the past,
Remind me that you are not here.
Another bitter end just proved your fear,
And poisoned hope of binding me with you.
So here I am, watching you take your place,
As one of the lonely few.
Knocked us down, but I picked you up
Got there early but ran outta luck
All for your life, year after year.
The dust burns my face like so many lies
It strips away, a fool's disguise
The end of our comfort is near.
The blooming dawn, sunlight through the trees,
Promises the coming day.
My exhausted mind - clears - with the breeze,
That helps me to find my way.
With that sign in my mirror as I move on
To put another town, between me and you.
Knowing this time, what was left behind,
Was one of the lonely few.

You Could See
03:02
|
|||
Clouded by experience
Enclosed within his own cruel world of
knowledge and appearances
Betrothed but still alone
He stands waiting, yes looking for the girl
He feels the cold wind on his face
Expecting to wake up from this day's bad dream
of love's disgrace
She wasn't all that she seemed to be
The games she played were too much for his soul
Look out the window
Say what you see
It suits you well but it's no good for me
Searching for a firm foundation
Lost amid the speculation
Your faith was only in what you could see
A new home out among the simple,
The restless and the hungry people
Trying to forget his past dreams
Money really is what it seems
Scraping just to drive another day
Two jobs won't pay the bills
You shouldn't just expect it would be easy
Just say it will
And these things ain't pleasing to you
Would sell your soul for only one more day
Look out the window
Say what you see
It suits you well but it's no good for me
Searching for a firm foundation
Lost amid the speculation
Your faith was only in what you could see
What you could see
You could see

Straw Man
04:12
|
|||
So I go down to the station
But my train's not on time
And my pockets are too empty
To give an answer that'll take me down the line
So I look at what I am
Propped up, turning in the wind
And know they'll bend you and they'll break you
To shape the mean, that lies within
The resistance is zero, gain maximized
Turn up the volume, no compromise
With your cranial noise headphones donned
Hold still while I sew your head back on
You've been fixing for a fight
But your dogs are looking thin
Spent your last dollar on a magazine
To arm the mean, that lies within
When you can grow a guitar from the seed of a tree
But due to the science, they cannot be free
They just smile and plant an orchard of axes
And tell everyone to just choke on their taxes
Hiding in plain sight
Better mobilize the kin
Or manipulate the bewildered herd
To drive the mean, that lies within
Trivial psychic, the obvious master
We all share the gift, see the coming disaster
The flash bomb whistles, the cameraman jumps
Making bland predictions sure smooths out the bumps
So I'm back down at the station
Can you tell me where you've been?
You say you need some kind of scarecrow
To shock the mean, that lies within

Outside Inside
04:14
|
|||
Someone on the outside just died
Someone on the inside just lied
The train it moved along
Making time, winding it’s way home
When a man stepped on the tracks alone
Someone on the inside just lied
Someone on the outside just died
"The trouble’s with the engine", they said
Then they quickly hid away
No one moves another inch today
Someone on the outside just died
Someone on the inside just lied
Someone on the outside
Lost the gift you never give away
But inside, there's only anger from delay
Someone on the inside just lied
Someone on the outside just died
Those around me only laughed
At a man who couldn’t see the light
No one cared why he just gave up the fight
Someone on the outside just lied
Someone on the inside just died
I watched the lightning and the rain
Try to wash away what we had learned
The stains won’t fade and the sky still burns

Down
04:31
|
|||
The invisible hand upon our shoulder
Built by writers, lawyers, soldiers
The match alights, the parchment smolders
And every statue gets knocked over
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Forgettin’ back when they could fly
Now the clouds block out the sky
And they’ve gone, gave up their slice of pie
Never stopped to wonder why
Toadies tellin’ them it's not too late
Hanging a promise of escaping fate
Just another game of switch it and bait?
See the crossroads, they lock the gate
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Pockets lined with silver, filled with gold
Tellin’ me it’s the lucky who grow old
Did it take you skill, was it that you’re bold
What color’s heaven in your world?
Cheat the system, hack the rules
Put one over on all those fools
Living out a code of ridicule
Cut the knot, 'n take the Devil’s due
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Pockets lined with silver, filled with gold
Tellin’ me it’s the lucky who grow old
Did it take you skill, was it that you’re bold
What color’s heaven in your world?
Well. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
Down. it’s comin’ down
It’s comin’ down. it’s comin’ down, down, down
The invisible hand upon our shoulder
Built by writers, lawyers soldiers
The match alights, the parchment smolders
And every statue gets knocked over

Let Me Breathe
07:20
|
|||
I pull the car into my drive,
turn the key, and power down.
Just put it to sleep for a week or two,
a month or four, a year or more.
The rhythm of the days drones on,
the hum is deafening, just listen to the noise.
The power and the pull overtake,
become threatening, don’t listen to those boys.
Tell me what worries you
What weighs you down?
Roll this stone off my chest and let me breathe again.
Roll this stone off my chest, just let me breathe.
I pay the rent where no one lives,
insure the car that no one drives.
Pretend each day is still the same,
among the comfortable lies.
But my job may not be there in the morning
when I wake. What happens then?
I wear the face that keeps me safe.
Do you still know me? Now I don’t look the same.
Tell me what worries you
What weighs you down?
Roll this stone off my chest and let me breathe again
Roll this stone off my chest, just let me breathe.
Roll this stone off my chest and let me breathe again
Roll this stone off my chest, just let me breathe.
Through the weeks I’ve built a wall
that none can breach or so it seems.
I cover myself and stay within,
avoid the tainted breath, that would steal my dreams.
And the weight it grows each passing day,
not knowing what to do or when I fell beneath it all.
It changes minds this fear we feel,
don’t think it’s real, rescue me.
Tell me what worries you
What weighs you down?
Roll this stone off my chest and let me breathe again
Roll this stone off my chest, just let me breathe.
Roll this stone off my chest and let me breathe again
Roll this stone off my chest, just let me breathe.
just let me breathe.
